On Saturday, May 14, the village of Blackville hosted their annual Firemen Appreciation Night at the Father AA McKinnon Memorial Hall. More than sixty people were in attendance.
Jonathan Brennan was the master of ceremonies, along with special guests, MLA Jake Stewart and mayor Andrew Hawkes.
Five retiring members were honoured, and six firemen were honoured for years of service.
Retiring firemen included Wayne Doucet (29 years), Ken Walls (24 years), Perry Peterson (9 years), Matthew Hallihan (6 years) and Devan Keenan (6 years).
Firemen who received certificates for years of service included Garth Underhill (35 years), Al Underhill (15 years), Jason Brennan (20 years), LeRoy Burns (25 years), Bradley Brophy (15 years) and Orland O’Donnell (30 years). Former fire chief Fred Kennedy was honored with an award for his service as well.
Saint Raphael’s CWL and volunteers prepared a hot turkey dinner and dessert.
