Blackville Women's Institute Celebrate Heritage Day
Last month, the Blackville Women’s Institute hosted their annual Heritage Week Celebration at the Blackville Community Centre.
The event, celebrated on Wednesday, February 15, featured guest speaker Jake Stewart, MLA for South West Miramichi Bay-du-Vin. Jake brought a greeting on behalf of the Official Opposition and gave a speech that discussed New Brunswick’s role in confederation, the role of the Institute over the years and people who have contributed to local heritage.
Mayor Christopher Hennessy brought a greeting on behalf of the village of Blackville and Women’s Institute member Carrie Weaver gave a presentation on quilting and presented some of her successes over the years with quilting.
The theme for Heritage Week 2017 was Celebrating 150 years – Célébrons 150 ans and recognized the many past contributions made by the people of New Brunswick to our nation of Canada. Heritage Week 2017 was celebrated in communities across the province of New Brunswick during the week of February 13 – 20.
