Roland “George” Routledge was born on February 17, 1938 in Amherst, Nova Scotia. He enlisted as a peacekeeper with the Canadian Forces on August 26, 1955 and was with the Black Watch (B.W.) Depot until February 1956 in Sussex, New Brunswick. From February of that year to November 1959 he was with the B.W. 2 Royal Highlanders of Canada (R.H.C.) unit as an instructor, and later B.W. Depot until September 1964.

George married Shirley Maude Schofield on July 6, 1963, and had one child Gregory (May 21, 1965 – June 6, 1999).

From 1964 to October, 1969 he was a member of the 1 R.H.C. unit in Gagetown. In the Fall of 1966 to Spring 1967, George was stationed in Cyprus. From October 1969 to May of 1970, he was with 2 Royal Canadian Regiment (R.C.R.) in Fort York, Germany.

From May to August, 1970, George was stationed with the R.C.R. unit at the Combat Arms School Infantry Division in Gagetown, New Brunswick.

He received several medals including United Nations Cyprus, Canadian United Nations Cyprus, Canadian Forces, and the Canadian Decoration CD and Clasp.

George was discharged as Warrant Officer on February 8, 1978.  An avid fly-tyer, he operated George’s Fly Shop in Renous for several years.

Mr. Roland “George” Routledge husband of the late Shirley (Schofield) Routledge of Renous River Road, passed away Wednesday April 27, 2016 at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 78.
