Toonies for Tummies Program at Foodland to Support Local Schools

COVID-19 has meant an increase in hungry kids. Blackville Foodland is collecting Toonies to help feed them. You can donate at the checkout starting Thursday, February 11 until Thursday, February 25, 2021. The store’s goal is to raise $800. Toonie for Tummies will match donations.

The Toonies for Tummies program raises money to feed hungry children a nutritious breakfast, whether they are studying at home or at school. Twice as many children may be hungry. 100% of the donations stay local.

It’s simple to donate a toonie at Blackville Foodland and help fill a hungry tummy in our community. 100% of your donation will benefit the growing number of hungry children. It’s never been more vital. Before Covid-19, many Canadian children (1 in 5) were at risk of food insecurity, and trying to learn while hungry. A growing number, some estimate twice as many, may be at risk.

This program is run by The Grocery Foundation, a registered charity, and benefits programs run by the Breakfast Club of Canada in Atlantic Canada.

Think hunger isn’t a problem around here? Think again. The breakfast and lunch programs at local schools are sometimes the only meals children get consistently. My co-workers and I often buy extras to keep in our classrooms so children never have to be embarrassed to grab from the goody basket or take a few snacks home. Please, if you can, give your extra change and help us feed kids ❤
