Remembrance Day 2020: Ways to Remember

With public events looking a lot different these days and the Legion’s decision to not host a public Remembrance Day ceremony in Blackville this year, there are still other ways you can participate in the Act of Remembrance.

On November 11, starting at 10:45 am, watch the National Remembrance Day Ceremony live on the The Royal Canadian Legion – National Headquarters Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CanadianLegion/.

On November 11 at 11:00 am, join millions of Canadians in observing two minutes of silence to honour, remember and thank all who served and sacrificed.

Blackville resident Edie Walls says she plans to commemorate that day with an alternative she found on the internet. “We’ll fly a flag, wear a poppy and at 11am we’ll step outside onto our front doorstep to honour the event with a moment of silence. We might even cook up some clam chowder for lunch too.”

If you have children in your household, the Royal Canadian Legion suggests a few ideas to get youth engaged at home:

  1. Draw, paint, or colour poppies or images of Remembrance and put it in your window.
  2. Paint a poppy on a stone and place them at the gravesites of Canadian Veterans.
  3. Craft your own paper poppy. Make a poppy using sheets of red and black paper, twist ties, glue, and scissors. Get the instructions here!
