Newly Established Regional Destination Marketing Organization (RDMO) Seeks Board Members

As part of the municipal reform in New Brunswick, the roles of Regional Service Commissions (RSCs) were expanded in 2023 to include regional tourism promotion.

Historically, tourism in the Greater Miramichi Region has been promoted under the “Discover Miramichi” brand, originally managed by the Miramichi River Tourism Association (MRTA). The City of Miramichi inherited the brand and assumed responsibility for tourism marketing, extending its efforts to promote attractions beyond the city limits.

In 2022, recognizing the need to fulfill its expanded mandate for regional tourism promotion, the Greater Miramichi Service Commission (GMSC) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of Miramichi to manage regional tourism promotion. During stakeholder consultations in 2023, strong support emerged for the creation of an independent Regional Destination Marketing Organization
(RDMO). In response, the MOU transitioned into a temporary service contract, with the City continuing to handle tourism promotion on behalf of the GMRSC while the Commission worked towards establishing its own dedicated tourism body.

The GMSC is pleased to have recently established a non-profit, arm’s-length Regional Destination Marketing Organization (RDMO), which will assume stewardship and lead the growth of the “Discover Miramichi” brand and its associated assets. We are now inviting applications from individuals interested in serving on the RDMO Board of Directors for a two-year term.

The RDMO will work closely with local stakeholders to create a robust tourism strategy, promote unique regional experiences, and connect local businesses, ensuring the Greater Miramichi Region is effectively marketed to both domestic and international audiences.

Applicants are being sought who represent one or more of the following sectors:

  • Accommodations business sector (2-3 representatives)
  • Attractions business sector or broader tourism industry (2-3 representatives)

To ensure diverse and inclusive governance, the composition of the Board will aim to reflect geographic representation across the Greater Miramichi region. We strongly encourage interest from members of the Esgenoopetitj First Nation, Natoaganeg, and Metepenagiag Mi’kmaq Nation communities.

Please keep in mind, these are voluntary, unpaid positions. If you are passionate about shaping the future of tourism in the Greater Miramichi region, please submit a letter of interest with a brief resume highlighting your qualifications and relevant experience to by January 5, 2025.
