The Miramichi River Valley Tourist Information Centre officially opened on Sunday, June 16 with a Grand Opening Celebration.
The event took place at the new centre at 168 Main Street in Blackville. Originally the Walls Historic House back kitchen, the building was completely renovated and now houses the tourism centre and gift shop and is equipped with a full kitchen and bathroom. There is also a seating area at the rear of the building, along with a custom-built firepit.
Miramichi River Valley Mayor Kevin E. Russell welcomed the crowd and expressed gratitude to everyone involved in bringing the building to fruition. Members of the municipal council attended the event and participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Also present were Mike Dawson, MLA for Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin, Jake Stewart, MP for Miramichi-Grand Lake, and Ashley Sullivan, representative for J.D. Irving, Limited. Helen Wakelin and Tulley Paul delivered a captivating performance.
The crowd enjoyed a delicious free BBQ and cake, while the kids had fun with cotton candy, bouncing in the jumping castle, and getting their faces painted.
