The Miramichi Ground Search and Rescue has made available the following information about their Project Lifesaver Program.

What is Project Lifesaver?
While anyone can become lost outside, it is important to recognize that some of our most vulnerable community members are at a higher risk due to cognitive conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Autism, and brain injury which may cause them to wander. Through innovative technology and search methods, MGSAR Project LifeSaver program gives families the security of knowing their loved ones can be found quickly if they become lost.

The primary mission of Project LifeSaver is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury to adults and children with the propensity to wander due to a cognitive condition. The technology used to quickly locate a lost participant dramatically reduces the search area and time by allowing MGSAR teams to work smarter.

If a Project LifeSaver participant becomes lost, MGSAR specially trained teams of Electronic Search Specialists step in to locate them quickly and safely. The innovative technology behind the Project LifeSaver program is twofold:

1. The at-risk individual wears a transmitter bracelet 24/7 (like a wrist watch) which emits a signal, maintained by MGSAR team members; and
2. MGSAR team of Electronic Search Specialists use a signal receiver to identify the location of the bracelet.

How to participate
Individuals who live with a cognitive disorder and are at risk to wander or bolt are eligible as a candidate for the Project Lifesaver program. Candidates must have a responsible caregiver caring for them 24 hours a day as Project Lifesaver is not a substitute for care or supervision.

Required documents:

• A signed contract between the Agent and Miramichi Ground Search and Rescue (MGSAR);
• A completed medical referral form signed by a health care service provider (HCSP);
• A completed client information form.

Once you have decided to enroll your loved one in our program by submitting the completed required documentation, a Miramichi Ground Search and Rescue representative will contact you to arrange a meeting at either your residence or our office.

The representative will attach a transmitter bracelet on your loved one’s wrist, demonstrate the testing procedure and explain how to complete the daily log.
