May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. As the riding season begins, it’s important to remember that road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Please be aware of the increased presence of motorcycles on our roads.

For enhanced safety, motorcycle operators should:

• Obey the speed limit
• Ride sober and well-rested
• Check, and double-check, blind spots before changing lanes
• Ride within your skill level and with others
• Wear approved helmets
• Consider high visibility and protective clothing
• Keep your eyes on the road – avoid distractions and fatigue

All other motorists sharing the road should:

• Check, and double-check, blind spots and mirrors, as motorcycles are smaller than other vehicles
• Give motorcycles space – increase your following distance
