Legion Branch 49 Seeks Donations and Members
A notice from R.C Legion Branch #49 Blackville
This notice is to explain the reason you are seeing the red donation boxes at the following locations:
- Blackville Pharmasave
- Blackville Foodland
- Blackville Home Hardware
- Blackville Circle K Irving
- Blackville Credit Union
- Route 118 Convenience, Chelmsford
- Renous Convenience
- Route 108 Ultramar Renous
The Legion has two funds: the General Fund and the Poppy Fund. The funds for the Poppy Fun are generated by the sale of the poppies and wreaths for Remembrance Day. This fund is used only for Veterans and their families.
The funds for the General Fund are generated by having fundraisers and membership fees. Because of COVID-19 we are unable to have the fundraiser we had planned for this summer. It was suggested that we do donation boxes and the Blackville Fire Department donated the red boxes to us. This saved us the expense of having them made. We are very thankful to them.
The General Fund is used for operating expenses. This would include such things as sending Members to rallies and training seminars, the meal after the Remembrance Day service, yearly P.O. Box rental, whatever is needed for operating expenses. Without the General Fund we would not be able to keep our Charter. Without the Charter there would be no more Remembrance Day Service in Blackville. I’m sure that this would be very disappointing for everyone who attends this event.
Blackville received its charter on April 4, 1945. We are trying very hard to keep it but we can’t do it alone. We need to keep the General Fund replenished and we need Members.
Please held us with your donations and consider becoming a member. We only have 4 meetings a year so it does not take up a lot of your time. At least ask us what you actually are expected to do as a member and then make your decision.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this notice. I know we can count on you!
Your truly,
Greyory Matchett
President Branch 49
