Kiersten Brennan Qualifies for NBHA World Championship

Kiersten Brennan and her horse Hobo have qualified for the 2021 NBHA World Championship that takes in Perry, Georgia next October. The National Barrel Horse Association World Championship sees competitors from all over Canada and the United States come together to compete for the world title.

After competing with NBHA Canada in Sussex in September, Kiersten and Hobo have qualified for Open Barrels, which has four divisions for placing with up to three placings per division. The first division (1D) is the fastest times overall; the second division (2D) is half a second behind the first place time in the 1D; the third division (3D) is one full second behind the first place time in the 1D and the fourth division (4D) is a full two seconds behind the 1D time. Each time you place in the open, the competitors’ points are accumulated. The top 5 competitors in each division qualify for the world championship. Kiersten and her horse qualified 1st in the 2D and 1st in the 3D overall, which qualified them for the world championship. They were the only team to win 2 divisions overall.

Kiersten, who has owned Hobo for two years, says she is really proud to be able to call herself and her 8-year-old horse world qualifiers, “Hobo is very athletic and loves to run! He is the first horse to greet people when coming into the barn. He’s also very nosy – the type to look in your pockets for a treat; but if you don’t have treats, he’ll settle for getting his ears scratched.”

Brennan who received her first horse for her twelfth birthday, is owner of Jersey Stables and offers horse boarding and riding lessons.

Her passion for riding is matched by the enthusiasm of her horse, “Before we go into the arena to run at shows, Hobo does a dance while going in… he’s just so excited to run.”

Kiersten is the daughter of Amanda and Jason Brennan.
