Character Matters Commemorative Events for the 1825 Great Miramichi Fire

This October, Character Matters Miramichi, supported by the City of Miramichi, presents three powerful events at Théâtre Gilles Laplante, Carrefour Beausoleil, honoring the legacy of the Great Miramichi Fire of 1825.
The weekend begins with Madame Bubier’s Premonition (Oct. 3 at 7pm & Oct. 4 at 2pm), a moving original play by Esther Mahoney that follows the Bubier family as a grandmother’s visions foretell the devastation to come, and the community struggles with faith, survival, and resilience.
On Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, audiences will be immersed in Beneath the Smoke (Oct. 4 at 7pm & Oct. 5 at 2pm), Thomas Daley’s original drama that brings to life the voices of merchants, settlers, clergy, and everyday families whose lives were forever changed by the events of October 7, 1825.
The weekend closes with After the Embers: A Night of Music and Remembrance (Oct. 5 at 7:00 pm), featuring Mike Bravener, Cindy Rule, Terry Whelan, and more—an evening of original music inspired by the stories of survival, loss, and renewal.
Weekend passes ($75) include both plays and the concert, and individual advanced tickets are $28 ($30 at the door).
