Blackville's Emery Brophy Inducted to Atlantic Salmon Museum Hall of Fame

Emery Brophy of Blackville was inducted in the Atlantic Salmon Museum’s Hall of Fame in a ceremony held on Saturday, September 22.

The 35th annual event was held at the Doaktown Curling Club and included a meet and greet, dinner and induction ceremony.

Brophy, an angler his entire life, was born and raised on the banks of Cains River and worked as a cookee for a short time as a young teenager, became a guide and was a Federal Fisheries Officer with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for 27+ years.

He retired in the 1990s and began guiding at Black Brook Salmon Club near Blackville. He still guides to this day.

Other inductees included Kenneth Gray of Bathurst, David Savage of Lower Newcastle, Carl Manderville Sr. of Bryenton and James Walker of Victoria, B.C., formerly of Miramichi.

After all those years on the river, both as a fisheries officer and a guide, I will be the first one to buy your book if ever you decide to write one… I’m sure you would have some dandy stories to tell !
