Adult Computer Training Course at Blackville Community Centre

UPDATE: Registration for this course is fully booked. If you have already registered, the course starts Wednesday, February 5 at 1:15pm at the Blackville Community Centre.

Are you interested in learning the basic skills and knowledge necessary to strengthen and increase your digital literacy level? Computing is an important part of everyday life in the twenty-first century. From music and photos to banking and communicating, computers have changed the way we work and live.

The FREE Community Adult Learning Program covers the following topics:

Computer Basics: This section introduces the learner to the fundamentals of computing, explains the components of a computer, explores operating system basics, and shows the learner how to use a mouse and a keyboard.

The Internet and the World Wide Web: This course shows the learner how to connect to the Internet, browse Web pages, navigate Web sites, and use search engines. The course also provides guidelines for determining whether the resources the learner finds are reliable.

Computer Security and Privacy: This section will help the learner gain confidence in computing by explaining the risks and threats to computer security and privacy so that they can understand and prevent them.

Productivity Programs: This section explores the most common productivity software applications used in business, in education and at home. The learner will become skilled at the fundamentals of word processing, and presentation software.

Email: This section explains the benefits of an email account and demonstrates how to use an Internet email account.

Digital Lifestyles: This section introduces the learner to digital technologies, including digital audio, digital video, and digital photography.

If you would be interested in attending a FREE 10 week Digital Literacy Course at the Blackville Community Centre, please contact Jennifer Doucet, Digital Literacy Facilitator for Miramichi Adult Learning Inc. at 622-1220. Please leave a message if there is no answer. The course would start on Wednesday, February 5 and run for ten weeks. The program is free and Jennifer supplies the Surface Pro tablets. Please note: this program will only be held if there is interest – please contact Jennifer at 622-1220 if you would like to attend.
