211: Free Resource for New Brunswickers

211 is Canada’s primary source of information for government and community-based, non-clinical health and social services. The free and confidential service can be accessed 24 hours a day by phone, chat, text, and web. 211 helps connect people to the right information and services, making their pathway to care and resources a guided and trusted one.

211 is the front door to help. It is an information and referral service that connects all who call New Brunswick home quickly to the critical human, social, community and government support they need. It is free and confidential. Phones are answered 24/7, 365 days a year, in 170 languages through interpretation services. And anyone can call. Parents, seniors, workers, business owners, students, community support organizations, teenagers struggling with being away from their friends – everyone can use this service.

211 received a call from a single mom of 5 looking to see how they could help. 211 connected her to resources for financial aid, food, clothing, and even Christmas gifts for her children. A senior called in for help with his taxes, and while on the phone he expressed how lonely and isolated he’s been feeling, and their community navigators were able to give him information on resources to not only help him declare his taxes, but also information on programs and services that will help him cope a little better. A father called on behalf of his adult daughter who had lost her job and moved back in. He also explained that she was struggling with mental health, and so the community navigator was able to help him help her by understanding various programs that she is eligible for, including those on affordable housing, social assistance, employment counselling and mental health.

And 211 have many more of these stories, and more still to come, as they help New Brunswickers navigate food access, financial assistance, mental health resources, COVID relief programs, newcomer support, family support and more.

You can call 211 on behalf of yourself, a loved one or with a resident needing support – it’s for everyone.

211 is available by phone, chat, website, and text in different regions – dial 2-1-1 to connect to community services.
