UPDATE: (September 13) This information session has been cancelled.

Hal Raper, chief financial officer with Blackville Enterprises Ltd., will deliver an update on his company’s plans for Blackville at a public information session Wednesday night, September 13, at the Blackville Community Centre. Representatives will give an update on their $46-million proposal for the former sawmill site at 6:30pm.

Raper said the group is looking forward to bringing the public up to speed on what’s been taking place over the last several months. He said the new company is inching closer to bringing the project to fruition and ultimately creating 140 direct jobs.

The plans call for two separate processing facilities – a sawmill and a pellet mill that would process low-grade biomass, or waste wood. They would be clustered on the same property, the former Blackville Lumber site. The site also would likely include three kilns, used for drying and dressing the wood, as well as a heat plant.

The presentation Wednesday night will provide an overview of Blackville Enterprises’ financial plans, its ability to secure wood supply, as well as a breakdown regarding the types of direct and indirect jobs that would be created.

The meeting is being organized by the Miramichi Valley Business Association.
