Blackville Blue Jays are Provincial Champions

The Blackville Blue Jays are Provincial Champions in Mosquito A after this weekend’s tournament in Riverview.

The team went 4 wins 0 losses in the Round Robin defeating Tracadie, Kent Sud, Caraquet, and Riverview. Riverview and Blackville then advanced to the championship game based on having the best records: Blackville 4 and 0, Riverview 3 and 1.

However, Riverview had to beat Blackville twice to win as the Blue Jays had defeated them in the round robin. Blackville was losing 7-1 in the 4th inning but a rally in the fifth brought them ahead 11-8.

River Stewart ended the game with a strike out, his 5th strikeout in 2 innings of work. The team ran to the pitchers mound and celebrated while coaches and some players ran out of the dug out, nothing but smiles, cheers, even tears! It was a great victory for the team.

The Riverview team selected Pitcher River Stewart and Right Fielder Abbie McAllister as Blackville players of the game, while the umpire presented River with the game ball, the one he threw for the last pitch, as he was the winning pitcher.

The Blackville Blue Jays are Caden Carter, Dallas Curtis, Cameron Golding, Kale Hallihan, Ty Matchett, Abbie McAllister, Destiny McCormack, Kaden McNeil, Conner Parks, River Stewart, Roman Stewart, Andrew Walls and Taylor Whalen. Jake Stewart is head coach and assistant coaches are Chris Matchett and Erica McAllister.

A great end to a successful summer of Blackville baseball.
